PRODUCTION ENGINEERING MEASURE FOR IMPROVED RELIABILITY OF SOLID ELECTROLYTE TANTALUM CAPACITORS.

Abstract

All work accomplished during this Production Engineering Measure contract is described in this report. The program covered work to improve evaluation procedures for tantalum powder and wire, temporary binders, impregnants and cathodic contact materials. Process improvement studies were under-taken for anode manufacture, anodization, deposition of manganese dioxide and assembly. Process Specifications and a Quality Control Manual are contained in the report. A production run, consisting of nine different ratings was made. Results of Group B and Group D tests and an 85 C life test on 9,150 capacitors for 10,000 hours are presented. An overall failure rate of 0.0105% per 1000 hours to the requirements of MIL-C-39003 was achieved. Results of analysis of capacitors which completed 10,000 hours life are appended to the report.
