INVESTIGATION OF ROUGH EARTH PROPAGATION MODELS.

Abstract

The purpose of this report is to discuss the most important propagation models, assess their usefulness, point out the most reliable models and suggest new areas of research. The best known references are in N.B.S. Technical Note 101, Beckman's book, 'Scattering of EM Waves from Rough Surfaces' and the Jansky and Bailey Propagation Report. A literature survey was motivated by the realization that the above references treat only limited areas of propagation. The report also reviews research undertaken in the Moore School on Antenna Placement Considerations, Diffraction of a Caustic by an Impedance Plane, Illumination of a Rough Surface by a Beam of Radiation, and Diffraction Radiation by Multiple Wedges. These topics are treated in greater detail in the referenced documents. (Author)
