IMPROVED VIDEO DETECTORS.

Abstract

A research and development program in the field of crystal video detectors is described in this report. The design goals of the crystal video detectors are as follows: Frequency range, 2 to 4 GHz; RF 3 db bandwidth, 2 GHz; Tangential sensitivity (2 MHz video bandwidth), 68 dbm; Peak power (1 microsec pulses, 0.001 duty cycle), 600 watts; Average power, 2 watts. In the first half of the program, some theoretical work has been completed for the evaluation of the effect of parasitic reactances on the performance of the hybrid diode. The theory of measurement techniques for the determination of crystal video detector sensitivity has been established. The design, development, and evaluation of a thin film video preamplifier to be incorporated into the integrated detector package has been completed. All hybrid detectors fabricated to date have been evaluated. (Author)
