TAKE-DOWN, ISOLATED TYPE ENCLOSURES.

Abstract

This technical report covers the construction and testing of two take-down, isolated type rooms. The enclosures are required to provide personnel safety in the high intensity fields produced by the electric field and magnetic field calibration facilities. These rooms are needed also to protect nearby electronic equipment from the radio frequency interference generated by the calibration facilities. Two enclosures were built and tested. One enclosure was designed to attenuate the radiated electric fields and the other room was designed to attenuate the radiated magnetic fields. A series of tests were conducted in accordance with the acceptance test procedure. The electric field tests proved that the steel enclosure and the 3-ounce copper enclosure gave over 80 dB attenuation at 1 kHz and over 100 dB attenuation at frequencies from 10 kHz to 10 GHz. At 10 GHz, the wave guide openings had to be covered with aluminum foil. The magnetic field tests proved that the steel enclosure was able to meet or surpass the attenuation levels at all of the specified frequencies. The 3-ounce copper enclosure was only required to meet the requirements of the electric field tests, but it was also tested for magnetic field attenuation and met the magnetic field requirements at 10 kHz, 100 kHz, and 10MHz. The results indicate that a well designed, two-layer, 3-ounce copper enclosure can be used for magnetic field calibration facilities. (Author)
