NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF EQUILIBRIUM AND EIGENVALUE PROBLEMS.

Abstract

The objectives of this research study were the comparison and evaluation of different techniques that can be used to obtain the numerical solution of equilibrium and eigenvalue problems involving thin plates. The solution of equilibrium problems is discussed first. The various techniques are broken down into two main categories. The first category includes those techniques that require trial functions satisfying the differential equations. The second category includes those techniques requiring trial functions satisfying the boundary conditions. Finite difference, finite element, and integral equation approaches are not considered. Within each of the two categories, the methods are further classified as stationary functional methods or weighted residual methods. The similarities and differences are pointed out.
