LOW-DISPERSION HIGH-POWER WAVEGUIDE SYSTEMS.

Abstract

One of the purposes of this program is to investigate the characteristics of oversize rectangular waveguide systems having low dispersion and high peak and average power handling capabilities. A second purpose is to develop oversize waveguide components which produce low dispersion, low mode conversion and high power handling capability. Operating frequency bands of 15 percent are desired. In the present report waveguide systems are considered which employ flat rectangular waveguides having height, b, considerably less than the width, a. In this case a is approximately 2.25 free space wavelength, lambda. Results are presented for S-band 3 dB couplers and duplexers for waveguide having a = 8.00 in. and b = 1.34 in. Some results are also presented of an investigation of full-oversize waveguide (a approx b approx 2 lambda) H-plane bifurcations and top-wall 3 dB couplers. (Author)
