THE ALOUETTE II TOPSIDE IONOSPHERIC SOUNDER,

Abstract

This report describes the swept-frequency pulsed sounder in the Alouette II satellite. Following a general description of the system design, attention is concentrated on some of the more difficult problems involved in its realization. Chief among these are the problems of obtaining enough transmitter power, of building a receiver with a large dynamic range, and of connecting transmitter and receiver to a common antenna. Also described are the techniques and practices used to achieve a very long life in orbit. (Author)
