RAPID SHELTER FLOORING AND HELICOPTER LANDING SITES.

Abstract

Material screening testing and material properties evaluation tests were conducted to select the program materials. Static wheel load, creep load, and rolling wheel load tests were conducted to determine the relationship between rolling and static loads. The results were analyzed to establish a functional thickness design criterion. Demonstration sites were prepared to evaluate shrinkage, cracking, and resistance to wheel loads. The material screening tests resulted in selection of a suitable fiber glass reinforced resin system for use in the planned program. Soil box and soil trench tests resulted in site thickness design criteria relating wheel loads and soil conditions to site thickness. A continuing material evaluation program revealed that the fabricated glass mat/polyester combination was the most satisfactory system for site fabrication. (Author, modified-PL).
