CONFIRMATORY TEST (TYPE I) OF SHERIDAN WEAPON SYSTEM, M551.

Abstract

A Confirmatory Test (Type I) of Sheridan Weapon System, M551 was conducted to evaluate its readiness for troop issue and to test its transportability by oceangoing vessels. It was concluded that the test item: (1) is suitable for troop issue with respect to surface transportability, including marine transportability and (2) is suitable as a nonswimmer for landing in a service-ready condition from beached landing craft in LOTS operations. It is recommended that: (1) the tiedown method described in this report be used whenever the M551 is shipped by marine craft and (2)transportability doctrine be prepared and published by appropriate agency.
