DEVELOPMENT OF STRAIN GAGE PROTECTION SYSTEMS FOR MARINE PROPELLERS AND APPLICATION TO USS F.D. ROOSEVELT (CVA-42).

Abstract

The report describes the development of adhesive and protective coating techniques for surface mounted strain gages and leads on bronze and titanium marine propellers. The static and dynamic testing conducted to evaluate these techniques for model and full scale propellers is described. The gage installation used for the propeller stress survey at sea on the USS F. D. Roosevelt is presented in detail. (Author)
