NONLINEAR DISTORTION IN TRAVELING WAVE TUBES.

Abstract

An analytical nonlinear field theory is developed for the 0-type TWT with a monochromatic input signal. The compression, c, and the AM-to-PM conversion factor, k sub p, are given in the form of closed analytical expressions containing tube parameters such as C, QC and b. The results are strictly valid at power levels up to about 6 dB below saturation and are compared in diagrams with experimental data. Design criteria for minimizing c and/or k sub p are established.
