A SIMPLE METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF THERMAL NEUTRON FLOWS,

Abstract

The method described involves the activation of a suitable material having a large activation cross section for thermal neutrons, followed by the autoradiographic determination of the distribution of the activity in the irradiated substance. The sample substance is in the form of foil and the autoradiographic film is evaluated by photometric techniques. With the aid of the method it is possible to attain an accuracy of plus or minus 5% in neutron-flux levels above 5 x 1,000 n/sq. cm.sec. Examples involving the use of the method in one of the horizontal channels of the WWR-S research reactor and the collimated neutron flow emanating from it were described. (Author)
