BALLISTIC RESEARCH LABORATORIES NEUTRON SPECTROGRAPH MODEL NDS-27.

Abstract

A 30-channel electronic readout system has been designed, fabricated, and delivered to the Ballistic Research Laboratories (BRL) at Aberdeen, Maryland. The readout system was designed to be used with a 30-channel solid-state neutron detector designed and fabricated by BRL. The detector employs the (n,p) reaction and measurement of the bending arc of the proton in a magnetic field to determine the neutron energy. The radius of the bending arc is measured in 30 increments by 30 solid-state detectors placed in line from the (n,p) reaction medium. The BRL detector and the General Dynamics Fort Worth Division electronics form a neutron spectrometer system capable of simultaneously measuring 30 increments of neutron energy from a pulsed or steady-state neutron field.
