EFFECT OF PLASTIC STRAIN ON THE KISCC OF HY-80, HY-130(T), AND 12NI-5CR-3MO STEELS.

Abstract

An investigation was initiated to establish the effect of plastic strain on the KIscc (plane-strain stress-intensity threshold below which SCC does not occur) behavior of HY-80, HY-130(T), and 12Ni-5Cr-3Mo steels in synthetic sea water. In general, the investigation showed that plastic straining does not affect the KIscc of HY-80 steel of 12Ni-5Cr-3Mo steel whereas it does lower the KIscc of HY-130(T) steel.
