RAPID APPROXIMATION OF RESPONSE OF AN UNDAMPED 3-MASS 2-SPRING LINEAR SYSTEM TO STEP VELOCITY LOADING.

Abstract

The report considers an undamped, 3-mass, 2-spring linear system, with a step velocity acting on one of the masses as the initial condition, thus approximating shock loading. After making certain simplifying assumptions, the deflections of the springs are calculated and a simple method of estimating the maximum deflection is developed. Graphs for aiding computations are presented in the appendix. (Author)
