Abstract

The purpose of these tests was to determine the compliance of Hand Red Flare Distress Signals with Coast Guard specifications. The following tests were conducted: Ignition and burning characteristics, and burning time; underwater burning; waterproofing of igniter button and burning time; bending strength; tensile strength; burning time and candlepower; elevated temperature, humidity, and storage; spontaneous ignition; chromaticity.
