MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF HIGH-TEMPERATURE FIBROUS STRUCTURAL MATERIALS. PART III - HIGH-SPEED, HIGH-TEMPERATURE TENSILE TESTER.

Abstract

A testing machine for measuring the tensile properties of textile structures with strengths to 1000 pounds at air temperatures to 2000 deg F and jaw speeds of 50 to 200 feet per second was designed, fabricated, and successfully operated. The tensile properties of 9/16-inch wide nylon, Dacron and Nomex tape were determined with the new testing machine. The results obtained are compared to the quasi-static tensile properties of the tapes and to the properties of the tapes determined with a ballistictype impact tester. (Author, modified-PL).
