RESEARCH STUDY OF A CO2 LASER RADAR TRANSMITTER

Abstract

Exploratory work on the behavior of dc and pulse excited CO2 laser amplifiers has resulted in the design and construction of a prototype laser radar transmitter. It is capable of an output of 1 kW average power in a train of 10 microsec pulses at a pulse repetition rate of 10 kc. This report summarizes the experimental results leading to the final design, outlines the design features and discusses initial tests of the performance of the completed device.
