IMPROVED DETECTION AND IDENTIFICATION OF INCAPACITATING AND LETHAL AGENTS.

Abstract

Emphasis was placed on the development of reagents for the detection of organophosphorus-type agents. In this regard, second-order Beckman reactions were studied in an effort to develop compounds that cleave to give detectable fragments. Oximes that cleave to give highly colored triarylmethane dyes or odoriferous mercaptans were investigated. The evaluation of coreactants for CVAO(tris(4-dimethylaminophenyl) acetaldoxime) was continued. Sodium aluminate and CVAO appear to give mixtures that are stable to both heat and light. Tris(4-diethylaminophenyl) acetaldoxime (EVAO) was synthesized and shown to give the crystal violet color in the presence of zinc thiocyanate and tosyl chloride. Three beta-thioetherketones were also synthesized.
