DEVELOPMENT OF A STEAM-POWERED, FREE-PISTON AIR COMPRESSOR.

Abstract

Development of an opposed-piston, steam-powered, free-piston air compressor is described. A single-stage model of the compressor was designed and manufactured. The machine was operated for numerous short test runs, up to 30-second duration, during which operation was successful and quite vibration-free. Additional development is required to achieve sustained machine operation and to produce a prototype design. (Author)
