LIQUID-VAPOR EQUILIBRIA OF THE HELIUM-ETHANE SYSTEM FROM 170 TO 290 K.

Abstract

The liquid-vapor equilibria of the helium-ethane system were measured from 170 to 290K, up to 200 atm. The data were obtained in a vapor recirculation apparatus which was constructed for this purpose. The data are presented at five temperatures (170, 200, 230, 260 and 290K) in both tabular and graphical form. The pressures between 0 and 100 atm are accurate within plus or minus 0.1 atm, and the pressures above 100 atm are accurate within plus or minus 0.3 atm. The temperatures reported are thought to be within plus or minus 0.05K. The vapor and liquid phases were analyzed for gas chromatography, and the reported compositions are thought to be accurate within about plus or minus 3% of the minor component composition. The data when plotted in terms of enhancement factors and Henry's law constants are seen to internally consistent. (Author)
