BROADBAND OPTICAL DETECTORS (1.06-MICRON).

Abstract

A sensitive, broadband, solid-state optical detector was developed, for 1.06-millimicrons light. The detector contains a germanium avalanche photodiode, thermoelectric cooler, automatic biasing circuit and a low-noise broadband preamplifier. The program was divided into three tasks: Task I--design, fabrication and study of germanium avalanche photodiodes; Task II-design and fabrication of the amplifier, cooler, and bias circuit; and Task III--testing and characterization of the complete detector assembly.
