COMMERCIAL SUPERSONIC TRANSPORT PROGRAM. PHASE IIC. TITANIUM ALLOY SELECTION REPORT,

Abstract

The heat treat study indicated that both titanium alloys, Ti-6-4 and Ti-4-3-1, when tested in 1/2 inch plate provided adequate strength, toughness, and salt water crack propagation resistance for SST structure when their microstructures were controlled by proper thermal processing. The heat treat conditions for each alloy are presented.
