ELECTRON IONIZATION CROSS SECTIONS.

Abstract

Cross section values for the single and double ionization of lead were obtained. A number of calibration experiments were carried out on the electron gun and ionization chamber; minor design improvements were made. A thermally-driven atomic beam shutter was installed on ion source VII to permit better control in weight-gain measurements. A substantial effort was made to improve electronics, particularly the feedback stabilization circuitry and the automatic data-taking facilities.
