THOMPSINE TAPE DEVELOPMENT FOR USE IN SOLID PROPELLANT ROCKET NOZZLES.

Abstract

The applicability and effectiveness of Thompsine Tape as an ablative material in solid rocket motor nozzles was evaluated. The program consisted of two phases. In the initial phase, several Thompsine styles were evaluated for mechanical properties, ablative performance, and fabricability. In Phase II, the data generated in the first phase were used to develop an optimized version of Thompsine. This material was then characterized by determining mechanical and thermal properties, ablative performance, and fabricability. A cost study was made to determine the economics involved in Thompsine usage. (Author)
