RESEARCH IN DEVELOPING A SIGNALING AND SUPERVISORY CONTROL PLAN FOR TACTICAL NAVY COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS.

Abstract

This report documents Phase I of a program now entering the second phase (February 1968). Work to date has been analytical with limited experimentation. In Phase II, a computer simulation, laboratory tests, and fabrication of experimental signalers will be included along with the development of a recommended SSC plan. An evolutionary program of improving SSC is recommended in this report. The organization of tactical communications is reviewed; SSC functions are defined and selected in order of priority; the technology of signaling is described and a system design concept recommended; a plan for subsequent computer analysis is presented. The special application of the SSC plan to satellite communications and the more complex arrangements required in switched systems are described. The problem of signaling reliably in the presence of heavy interference is treated. (Author)
