POLYBENZOTHIAZOLE AS A BINDER FOR SOLID FILM LUBRICANTS.

Abstract

Results are presented for the development of a polybenzothiazole resin bonded solid film lubricant. Improved performance is demonstrated at 500 F and higher which is over conventional resin bonded films. Optimization of lubricant to binder ratio and lubricant pigment mixtures are described. A final formulation of three parts of a 75% MoS2 to 25% Sb2O3 mixture and one part resin with 10% ZnO was selected and evaluated at loads to 200 pounds in line contact, speeds to 600 RPM, temperatures to 750 F.
