NEAR INFRARED LASERS: SAFETY CALCULATIONS.

Abstract

It is theoretically demonstrated in this report that certain lasers operating in the near infrared are expected to have no accompanying retinal hazard. This is due in large part to the absorption properties of the human eye in this region. In these calculations the 1.5 - 1.8 microns and 2.0 to 2.4 microns wavelength regions were considered. Estimates of threshold injury levels and allowable dose levels are also shown. (Author)
