PIEZOELECTRIC ACCELEROMETER SIGNAL ERROR IN COMPLEX SHOCK RECORDINGS,

Abstract

Signal error in recordings of complex shocks has been traced to piezoelectric accelerometers. High impact shocks applied along the longitudinal axis and high frequency shocks applied along the transverse axis of the accelerometers are the principal sources of error. Described are the types of signal error which occur, the shocks which produce them, the effect of error on data analysis, and the effect of complex shock on undamped single-degree-of-freedom systems.
