THE CHEMISTRY OF RARE GASES.

Abstract

Three argon compounds may have been synthesized: (1) argon fluoride in quantities of 25-150 micrograms, (2) an argon-silicon tetrafluoride addition compound in microgram quantities and (3) a possible addition compound with O2F2 similar to the hydrate (Ar.6 H2O) in milligram quantities. Although some theoretical calculations indicate that an argon oxide may be stable, it was not possible to prepare any argon oxide by the methods described. The results from the plasma jet experiments showed that metastable NH2 compounds can be produced by the N2 + H2 plasma jet. The plasma jet produced a very complex emission spectra which indicated the presence of NH2 species. (Author)
