INVESTIGATION OF THE ELECTRODE MIGRATION AND REACTION PROCESS OCCURRING IN ALKALINE-ZINC BATTERIES.

Abstract

The zinc electrode was studied by means of cyclic voltammetry. Variables studied were: presence of carbonate ion; presence of zincate ion; the effect of stirring; the effect of amalgamating the zinc electrode. The results obtained confirm mechanisms suggested earlier. Additional nickel-zinc cells have been assembled and cycled. Additional layers of separator were used to extend cycle life. The cycle life of the cells was then limited by the loss in capacity of the nickel oxide electrode. (Author)
