BEHAVIOR OF MATERIALS UNDER CONDITIONS OF EXPLOSIVE STRESSING,

Abstract

The object of this project was to investigate the maximum strain that a metal can withstand without rupturing by explosive loading. The metals initially selected for this program are basic types presently used in the missile industry. In conjunction with this program, Evaluation of Tooling Materials for Hydro-Chemical Forming was initiated. The objective was to provide design data for selection of tooling materials from the standpoint of permanent and expendable dies. Of the several dies designed and fabricated the most unique proved to be the 'Shell Die' backed by water. (Author)
