RESULTS OF DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE COST RESEARCH SURVEY MARCH 1968.

Abstract

This survey presents the results of a canvass of cost research activities recently completed by the Military Departments in cooperation with this office. It was the intent to include reports on all work, whether done in-house or by contractors, which would be of interest to analysts responsible for estimating the costs of major weapon systems or their related support. This survey includes work which may also have other applications. However, some otherwise worthwhile studies which would have only limited applicability to cost analysis were excluded from this publication. All work completed since the last survey in March 1967, now in progress or scheduled to be started during 1968, was reviewed for inclusion. Effort was made to make the survey as complete as possible. However, it is recognized that some omissions have probably occurred. For this reason, agencies knowing of cost research not included in this publication are urged to bring it to the attention of the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Regional and Resource Analysis). The preparation of this survey reflects the importance the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Systems Analysis) accords sound cost analysis in force planning.
