IONIZATION AND RECOMBINATION CONTRIBUTIONS FOR A HELIUM PLASMA.

Abstract

The particle number densities for an equilibrium helium plasma were calculated for temperatures between 10000 and 100000K and pressures between 0.1 and 500.0 atmospheres. Ionization and recombination reaction contributions were calculated for a collision-dominated helium plasma at Saha equilibrium. The particle number densities were obtained using the program of Olsen; the reaction contributions were determined using the reaction coefficients of Elwert. Saha reaction balance was observed for the calculated ionization and recombination reaction contributions. These results, as well as the functional dependence of the reaction contributions, agree qualitatively with theory. (Author)
