SUMMARY AND EVALUATION OF 'A' SERIES MISSILE VIBRATION ENVIRONMENT,
Abstract
In designing and packaging airborne electronic and mechanical equipment, the designer must know the environment under which it will operate. An accurate description of this environment is especially important where minimum weight is a design prerequisite. Part of the environment to which the equipment will be subjected can be classified under the heading of mechanical vibrations. The determination and evaluation of the mechanical vibration environment at various locations on the Atlas missile is the subject of this report. The missile is divided into three major areas for the purpose of determining the vibration environment. The three areas are the nose area, the pod area, and the engine compartment. Once these vibrational environments have been determined the information will be used in order to specify a vibration test program which will be used to determine the performance and durability of missile mounted equipment under vibrational conditions simulating that of the missile in the launcher and in flight.
