LIQUID-FLUORINE SHUTOFF VALVE DEVELOPMENT.

Abstract

Two (2) inch line size flight weight axial flow liquid fluorine shutoff valves, incorporating bellows type dynamic seals and poppet and seat combinations, were designed, developed, fabricated, and evaluation tested with liquid fluorine. The valve is all-metal utilizing a copper seat and stainless steel poppet. Conventional fabrication techniques were used for the valve components including conventional surface finish techniques for the seat and the metal poppet sealing surfaces. The Appendix to this report documents the results of testing of the liquid-fluorine shutoff valve. For these tests, the 2-inch coaxial-poppet-type valve was cycled under flow conditions of approximately 20 lb/sec with an upstream pressure of 150 PSIG. Comparative data were obtained with 300 cycles on each of two seat-and-poppet sets, installed in the same valve. (Author)
