VHF FILTER CRYSTAL RESEARCH.

Abstract

The investigation of the effect of dielectric tuning layers of evaporated SiO sub x on the Q sub m of AT-cut quartz resonators was completed. The resonant frequency of a 10 MHz fundamental mode resonator was lowered 826 kHz (8.4%) in increments of 20 kHz. In so doing, the Q sub m decreased from 86,300 to 29,200. In addition, the Q sub m displayed a cyclic variation as the frequency was lowered. The resonant frequency of a 30 MHz 3rd harmonic mode resonator was lowered 1,351 kHz (4.5%) in steps of about 30 kHz. The Q sub m of this unit decreased in a continuous manner from an initial value of 92,300 to a Q sub m of 51,300. When appropriately normalized, the data of Q sub m versus the decrease in resonant frequency for fundamental, third and fifth harmonic mode resonators were in agreement. (Author)
