SELF-MODULATING TRANSDUCERS.

Abstract

The feasibility of developing self-modulating transducers utilizing integrated circuit electronics is established. These transducers provide FM, PDM, or PCM outputs for direct recording on low speed magnetic tape. Preliminary designs are presented for the electronic systems which, with compatible semiconductor strain gage sensors, generate frequency, pulse width or pulse code outputs proportional to sensor input amplitude. Final design details and performance data are given for the FM and PCM electronic systems with integral pressure sensors, and for the high temperature (0 to 300C) pressure sensors developed during Phase II. Primary program objectives were met; however, temperature compensation of zero shift and sensitivity for the high temperature pressure transducers, to the design goal specifications, was not possible within the constraints of the contract schedule and finding.
