SMALL STRAIN MODULUS AND POISSON'S RATIO.

Abstract

Tests were conducted on viscoelastic materials utilizing beam bending theory to measure small strain creep compliance in the range of linear viscoelastic theory. Beam testing appears to be well-suited for use over a range of temperatures where time-temperature superposition may be employed for complete characterization. A definition of Poisson's ratio in the transform plane is also proposed, which leads to the formulation of a new material property consistent with the correspondence principle, and readily measurable in the time domain. Calculation of this material property for a real propellant is included in the study. (Author)
