STUDY OF COUPLING OF NATURAL BENDING MODES WITH THE AUTOPILOT FOR THE XSM-65 B AND XSM-65 C SERIES OF MISSILES,
Abstract
This report represents a planar study of the coupling of the first three lateral modal frequencies and the autopilot of XSM 'B' series and XSM 'C' series missiles. The missile is thought to be sufficiently symmetrical that this study is representative of either the pitch or yaw planes. This study has indicated that for the XSM 'B' series a gyro location at missile Station 943 is suitable; for the XSM 'C' series, missile Station 975 is recommended. These stations are for both booster and sustainer powered flight. It has also been recommended that the autopilot loop rate gains be set at 0.4 deg/deg/sec to prevent first mode coupling immediately following launch. (Author)
