SECOND STAGE PRESSURIZATION OF OXIDIZER TANK WITH FUEL TANK ULLAGE GAS FOR 'E' MISSILE,

Abstract

In the interest of reducing weight during second stage operation, the fuel tank ullage gas has been proposed as the oxidizer tank pressurizing media. Using this system rather than storage bottles and their associated hardware, results in a material reduction of burnout weight. Decreasing the burnout weight results in an increase in range. Another decided advantage is the simplicity of the proposed system and the increased reliability. Pressurization control depends upon a relatively simple relief valve rather than a more complicated regulator. (Author)
