CADMIUM AMINE COMPLEX BASES AS CELLULOSE SOLVENTS,

Abstract

Previous preliminary experiments indicated that solutions of (Cd(NH3)6)(OH)2 as well as those of (Cd(en)3)(OH)2 are capable of dissolving cellulose under certain conditions. These conditions were examined more closely, since it appeared possible to utilize these solutions for optical measurements for the evaluation of cellulose because of their absence of color. In accordance with the nomenclature for other recently discovered amine complex base cellulose solvents, the two solvents are designated as 'Cadoxam' and 'Cadoxen.'
