PRESSURE TRANSDUCER RESEARCH.

Abstract

Calculations are reported in which one- and two-dimensional elastic-plastic computer codes have been used to simulate the physical events associated with the operation of manganin piezoresistive pressure transducers. In particular, the analysis of the path by which the manganin wire comes to equilibrium with the surrounding medium has been calculated and also verified experimentally. The perturbations introduced by the transducer leads have also been studied. Experiments on two types of advanced transducer systems are discussed in this report; the first involves the so-called anomalous thermoelectric effect and its possible use as a shock pressure transducer, and the second system is a manganin-wire gauge that is capable of directly measuring the deviatoric stress components.
