AN OBSERVATIONAL STUDY OF STRONG RADIO SOURCES AT METER WAVELENGTHS.
Abstract
This report reviews the present state and future plans for radio astronomy work. A very high resolution, low frequency antenna is under construction. This antenna will be two miles in length and will have resolution of 0.3 degrees. A portion of this antenna is completed and observations are in progress. It is proposed to make radio astronomical observations primarily at low frequencies. The emphasis in our observational program will be on frequencies below 50 mc/sec. The scientific reasons for our interest in the low frequency range are first, the paucity of work by other institutions in this field, and second, the great intrinsic value of such observations.
