ATLAS SIMULATION B ASTRONAUTICS DIGITAL COMPUTER LABORATORY PROGRAM NO. 1717,

Abstract

The purpose of this report is to furnish a reference for Atlas Simulation, a missile flight simulation program. The physical situation is described in terms of the following: a local reference frame, a missile axis referenced system, an idealized aerodynamic force, a simplified thrust application, and a guidance function which specifies the missile axis orientation relative to the local reference frame. The mathematical model is specified in terms of step function, table functions, polynomials, and other algebraic expressions. The expressions for the accelerations in the variables, referred to a rotating reference frame, are shown. The resolution of the forces into components referred to both missile axis and inertial space fixed reference systems are also shown. The program can be described in two ways. It is an organization of subroutines controlled by an input data sheet. It can also be considered as a numerical integration of several first and second order differential equations from arbitrary initial conditions. (Author)
