REPORTS ON THE MEKONG RIVER DELTA.

Abstract

'Reports on the Mekong River Delta' constitutes a study on deltaic environments which affect water craft and craft handling. In this complex area several fields of study are inseparably interrelated. Insight into how each field influences and contributes in various combinations to the total deltaic land- and sea-scapes aids in navigating in these environments. Lack of first-hand field data by the authors seriously handicaps the study. The reports comprise sections on the fundamental aspects of deltaic processes and form, in a worldwide sense, with focus on the Mekong Delta. The river flow regime versus high tides and other maritime effects, and the integral influences of climate and vegetation, are significant aspects of the study. A section on navigation hazards summarizes the interrelationship of the phenomena and problems posed in transiting coasts and rivers. (Author)
