INITIATION OF EXPLOSIVES BY EXPLODING WIRES. XII. EFFECT OF CRYSTAL HABIT, DENSITY, AND PARTICLE SIZE ON THE INITIATION ENERGY OF TETRYL,

Abstract

The effects of particle size, crystal habit, and loading density on the EBW initiation of tetryl were studied. Changes in crystal habit can produce large changes in EBW sensitivity; increasing loading density decreases EBW initiation sensitivity, slowly at first, then more rapidly. The results also indicate that there is an optimum particle size for attaining the greatest EBW sensitivity. (Author)
