SRI EXPERIMENTS ON AFCRL NIKE-CAJUN ROCKET AD 6.842 AND ON TRAILBLAZER II,

Abstract

Results of voltage breakdown and rocket charging experiments on the flight of Nike-Cajun Rocket AD 6.842 are presented. Also presented are results of Langmuir probe electron density measurements made on Trailblazer II AD 21.860. The results of the Nike-Cajun experiments agree well with the data obtained on an earlier firing (Nike-Cajun AD 6.841) and with the results of laboratory breakdown measurements. The ion probe experiment functioned well, and over a large portion of the reentry, the measured electron density agrees well with computed results. Transition from laminar to turbulent flow in the boundary layer was clearly evident from the probe data. (Author)
