DESIGN FUNDAMENTALS FOR NEMP PROTECTION OF NIKE-X POWER PLANTS AND FACILITIES ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS.

Abstract

This report presents design fundamentals which will enable an architect engineer to incorporate NEMP protection for electrical and communications systems into the NIKE-X facilities design. The design fundamentals are based on the most recent authoritative NEMP data, and references are made to NEMP environment descriptions, R and D studies to determine electrical system susceptibility, development of protective measures, and development of NEMP protection criteria. Design fundamentals are included for building and room shielding, wiring system shielding, openings and penetrations of shielded volumes, electrical equipment shielding, and required grounding practices for NEMP induced voltages and currents.
