THEORY OF CYLINDRICAL SHELLS DEFLECTIONS AND STRESSES IN PRESSURIZED CYLINDERS UNDER CONCENTRATED TANGENTIAL LOADS,

Abstract

Formulas are derived in the present report by means of which the deflections and stresses may be computed for a cylindrical shell subjected to a localized load acting in the circumferential direction. Classical shell theory is used and the effect of internal pressure upon deflections and stresses is included. The solution is developed in the form of double Fourier series and formulas are presented for the relevant Fourier coefficients. The report concludes with an illustrative numerical example.
